Start Roof Top Gardening in Visakhapatnam

The City is growing in terms of People, Infrastructure, Vehicles, etc and this has also let to ever-increasing air and sound pollution. Greenery is getting shrink and may get totally lost in these cemented jungles.

Terraced or roof top gardens in Visakhapatnam is the latest hobby pursued by residents in the City as they not only make your homes beautiful but also Eco-friendly, even get the happiness of growing own vegetables or fruits or flowers.

If you are thinking about developing a terrace garden at Vizag or even renovating an existing one at your place, then this article of mine shares few important things in mind before we proceed to starting a terrace garden and that can prove useful -

Firstly the Structure of House should be strong enough and have proper drainage before planning any garden or plantation at the terrace. Ideally its best to plan the Garden at the time of building your house but in case of existing houses few alterations or modifications can be done to create the Garden.

Adequate sunlight is necessary for the most of the Plants in the garden to thrive, except in few exceptional cases of ornamental or vegetable plants that might not require too much sunlight.

Clay Pots or Grow bags or Plastic Containers can be used accordingly to manage the space at the terrace so that it enough space will be there. The best Soil Mix should be a mixture of red soil, sand and compost. These days coco peat is used instead of sand to retain the moisture and one can prepare their own organic compost using Kitchen Waste.

Always try choosing plants that need less care or not get damaged due to fungus or insects. You can use different sizes of pebbles or shells for decorating the top layer of the soil.

I have a likeness of growing vegetables in my terrace garden and so started with getting seeds of different vegetables like Spinach, Bitter Gourd, Radish, Okra, eggplant, etc. Make sure to know which grow best in Summer or Winter. Germinate the seeds, let it grow into saplings before transplanting to containers.

Maintenance of a terrace garden is not difficult and one learns gradually by spending some time daily to check the growth and condition. These days even air purifier plants or pest repellent plants or herbal plants are mostly grown by garden lovers for good healthy environment.
