The best Soil Mix should be a mixture of red soil, sand and compost. These days coco peat is used instead of sand to retain the moisture and one can prepare their own organic compost using Kitchen Waste.
Always try choosing plants that need less care or not get damaged due to fungus or insects. You can use different sizes of pebbles or shells for decorating the top layer of the soil.
I have a likeness of growing vegetables in my terrace garden and so started with getting seeds of different vegetables like Spinach, Bitter Gourd, Radish, Okra, eggplant, etc. Make sure to know which grow best in Summer or Winter. Germinate the seeds, let it grow into saplings before transplanting to containers.
Maintenance of a terrace garden is not difficult and one learns gradually by spending some time daily to check the growth and condition. These days even air purifier plants or pest repellent plants or herbal plants are mostly grown by garden lovers for good healthy environment.
